Within the public program of the art park “Mobile Museum. Next Season” on Thursday, July 22, at 20.00 - 21.00 there will be a solo performance RUINS by dance artist Kristīne Brīniņa about finding a “home” in herself.
While driving around the Courland area, the choreographer observed and documented abandoned buildings, which are quite common in the rural parts of Latvia. Empty homes evoked a series of associations – life spent with someone for the rest of our lives, collapsing families, violent relationships, poverty, longing, hope, loneliness and shelter. Whilst nature takes over the ruins of buildings, new homes are being built somewhere else, adjusting them to what are considered to be a person's needs. Wrecked constructions and personal experience became an inspiration for the creation of the performance RUINS.
RUINS will be a sonic, rhythmic and physical performance, in which movement will be formed by Kristine's collaboration with bricks, portraying different relationships between a person and the environment. The idea of this work resonates with the idea of Martin Haideger's philosophical essay "Building, living, thinking" stating that living and taking care of things is the direct way in which human existence is fulfilled. In Kristīne Brīniņa's performance, the work acquires socio-political and existential meaning. It is permeated by longing, vulnerability and fragility, which are contrasted with strength and commitment that puts the body at risk.
The sounds created by the interaction of movement and objects are complemented by the musical landscape of the analog instruments of the musician Maksims Šenteļevs.
