Solidarity in Flux. Cross-Baltic Collaboration: Performance and Discussion Programme

Solidarity in Flux
Cross-Baltic Collaboration: Performance and Discussion Programme
Date: 20 November 2026, 16:00 (CEST)
Venue: Ristorante In Paradiso, Venice (Castello, 1260 Giardini della Biennale, 30122)

"Solidarity in Flux" is a cross-Baltic collaboration exploring contemporary manifestations of solidarity in the artistic and cultural narratives of the Baltic region and beyond. Taking place during the closing days of Biennale Arte 2026, the event examines the forms, limits, and possibilities of collective action in today’s fragmented geopolitical landscape through performance, dialogue, and visual storytelling.

Initiated by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) in collaboration with leading Baltic art institutions—Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) and National Gallery of Art (NDG)—the project highlights regional collaboration and the role of cultural initiatives in models of solidarity. By focusing on community-building, it showcases how artists and cultural practitioners navigate institutional and grassroots frameworks to foster resilience and collective reinvention.

This year, La Biennale di Venezia has sparked urgent questions about cultural narratives by permitting Russian and Israeli pavilions to participate. In this context, "Solidarity in Flux" questions the lessons learned about solidarity within the regional framework, highlighting shared resilience and advancing vital conversations about power, truth, and institutional accountability amid today’s geopolitical tensions.

Programme highlights

"Solidarity in Flux" intertwines history, culture, politics, and aesthetics to address urgent transitions in the Baltics, Central, and Eastern Europe, particularly in light of the war in Ukraine. By integrating performance, visual art, and activism, the project encourages engagement among artists and curators, focusing on evolving narratives of resilience and collective reinvention.

Jana Jacuka will share a fragment of performance "HA", a solo performance which explores the performativity of laughter and extreme vocal practices

The programme features three Baltic artists: Jana Jacuka will share a fragment of performance "HA", a solo performance which explores the performativity of laughter and extreme vocal practices; Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė's "The Remainder" merges archival storytelling with live performance to challenge historical narratives; and Maria Wrang-Rasmussen's interactive piece uses edible materials, inviting participants to sensory explorations of creativity and community.

The performance programme will be extended by a panel discussion with invited speakers from Baltics, Central, and Eastern Europe — to be announced.

Please note: advance registration via Eventbrite is required to attend the programme. Places are limited.
