Exhibition „OfficeArt”

Exhibition „OfficeArt” at the Office Gallery of Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art

Starting December 10, the Office Gallery of Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art is housing the “OfficeArt” exhibition, displaying art created at work and during working hours by professional artists as well as professional office workers. Creative expression by using only office materials only at office space is displayed as a fact of art for the first time and demonstrates the basic functions of art, often forgotten in contemporary culture - to provide refuge and fun.

OfficeArt objects, applications, photographs, performance videos, office field recordings, environmental installations altogether create an interdisciplinary art project uniting visual artists, writers, architects and musicians.

Curators and authors are: Reinis Pētersons un Jānis Joņevs.

Participating - Krišs Salmanis, Maksims Šenteļevs, Jānis Jakubovs, Taņa Gulbe, Katans, Madara Laure, Līga Laurenoviča, Guilty Ltd., McCann, TBWA, Kolektīvs, Ģirts Arājs, A.-S.B-Š, Bulats Ratkevičs, Nams, The Matter and others.

Office art works "physically and conceptually with the notions of existentialism, romantic capitalism, artistic romanticism and deadpan slapstickism as a means to examine and probe the artifice that keeps us clinging to reality and distracted from the void,” the American artist and art theoretician John Herschend characterizes this trend.
