Exhibition cycle Divdabis

From May to August, the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMA) will host a series of three exhibitions produced by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) under the title Divdabis (Twofold), which will continue one of the main focuses of the LCCA – to study recent art, marking the significance of history in the contemporary art scene.

Oļegs Tillbergs / Jānis Filipovičs (07.07-06.08)

The series will consist of three artist pairs – Jānis Borgs and Kaspars Groševs, Atis Ieviņš and Inga Meldere, Oļegs Tillbergs and Jānis Filipovičs. The cycle will include reconstructions of works from the 70s-90s as well as several works created especially for the exhibitions.

Through the choice of the title of the series – Twofold – the LCCA wants to underline the encounter of two different personalities, two space-times and to document the conditions and context which have affected creative processes in different eras.

“One of the directions of the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art's activities, is the review and reconsideration of recent art history. Many artists that we document and study are undeservedly forgotten or underappreciated and this question is of particular significance at the time when the contemporary art museum is taking shape. Exhibition series Twofold is not only a way of highlighting several artists, but also an opportunity to observe the interaction between artists of different generations," comments Solvita Krese, director of the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art.

The exhibition cycle will open with the exhibition of Jānis Borgs and Kaspars Groševs on 4 May, followed by Atis Ieviņš and Inga Meldere's exhibition on 2 June and Oļegs Tillbergs and Jānis Filipovičs exhibition on 7 July. The exhibitions will take place in the 4th Floor Exhibition Hall of the LNMA and will include a special children's educational programme developed by the LCCA.

The exhibitions are organised by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Latvian National Museum of Art, curators Solvita Krese, Inga Lāce, Andra Silapētere, Diāna Popova, curator of educational programmes Linda Veinberga. The exhibition cycle is supported by State Culture Capital Foundation and ABLV Charitable Foundation.
