What does art know? What are its research methods? How are the artistic and scientific research methods different? How can we evaluate artistic research? Art as research or artistic research is a field of argument between the academically recognised paradigm of creating knowledge and the ways practised in contemporary art and culture. In 2011, the centre of new media culture RIXC in collaboration with the art research laboratory MPLab at Liepāja University published the 9th issue of the scientifically reviewed periodical “Akustiskā telpa” (Acoustic space) titled “Māksla kā pētniecība” (Art as Research).
