Starptautiskā konference Atsedzot neredzamo pagātni („Recuperating the Invisible Past”) pievēršas jaunākajām pieejām, kas tiek izmantotas sociālisma perioda mākslas procesu izzināšanā un interpretācijā. Tā piedāvā interpretācijas un skaidrojumus par paralēlēm un atšķirībām mākslas un kultūras norisēs dažādajos Austrumeiropas reģionos laikā no 20. gs. 60 – 80. gada, kā arī jaunus skatījumus par to, kā apgūt un saprast neseno vēsturi.
Nepieciešamība no jauna pārskatīt 20. gs. 2. puses mākslas vēsturi ir bijušo sociālisma un padomju bloka valstu pētnieku uzmanības centrā jau kopš 90. gadiem, jo ģeopolitiskās situācijas dēļ Austrumeiropas reģions no kopējās mākslas vēstures bijis izkritis. Šai problemātikai veltītas izstādes, publikācijas, konferences gan Austrumeiropā, gan citviet pasaulē, tapušas un arvien tiek papildinātas gan Austrumeiropas mākslas vēstures versijas, kurās uzsvērts, ka tās eksistence nav mazāk nozīmīga kā šobrīd ikviena profesionāļa pārzinātā Rietumu mākslas vēsture.
Konferencē Rīgā piedalīsies mākslas pētnieki un kuratori no ASV, Čehijas, Igaunijas, Krievijas, Latvijas, Lielbritānijas, Lietuvas, Polijas, Serbijas, Ungārijas, Vācijas. Viņu vidū arī tādas starptautiski atzītas autoritātes kā Eda Čufere, Viktors Misiano, Pjotrs Pjotrovskis, Linara Dovidaitīte, Dora Heģi, Marks Alens Švēde, Svens Spīkers. Uzstāsies arī vairāki atzīti un jaunās paaudzes pētnieki no Latvijas. Notiks paneļdiskusijas „Vēstures rakstīšana pēc 1989.gada. Postkoloniālisma un postkomunisma attiecības” un „Sastapšanās ar ‘ēnu’: atmiņas politika Baltijā”.
