From September 4 to 11, the contemporary art festival SURVIVAL KIT 2 took place in Riga, organized for the second year by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art. Over the course of a week, more than 70 participants of the festival offered exhibitions, creative workshops, lectures, film programs, performances, as well as activities in the urban environment in Upīša Passage, Berga Bazar, Miera un Baznīcas Street, Vecrīga, Spīķeri, Andrejsala and VEF.

Created as a reaction to the changes brought by the economic crisis, SURVIVAL KIT 2 offered scenarios for how to cope with the shifts caused by the modern world, combining art, creative approach and experience from other fields. "SURVIVAL KIT 2 is an attempt to prove that with small funds and mutual cooperation it is possible to positively influence the environment in which we live, that we ourselves can create our own ideal city," says curator Solvita Krese.

The festival started on September 4 at 19:00, when more than 30 exhibitions opened their doors: the impressive video installation "Flooded McDonald's" by the Danish artist group Superflex (kim?, Maskavas iela 12), Swiss artist Patrick Graf's cardboard world "Being human" (Marijas iela 16), Krišs Zilgalvis installation for the excess energy district "Steam room" (Berga bazar, Elizabetes iela), Katrina Neiburga film "Atkāzas" (Marijas iela 16), Ēriks Bozis photography exhibition "Artis" (Tinto, Elizabates iela 61), group exhibitions "Navel link " (Nabaklab, Z.
