Venues

Instead of taking place inside an abandoned building, Survival Kit 12 chose many of Riga's memorial museums as venues. This was also intended as a means of highlighting the topic of that year's edition: the aging of society and the infrastructures of care.


The Janis Rozentāls and Rūdolfs Blaumanis Museum
(Alberta street 12–9, 5th floor, Rīga)

Four works were on show in the building: Vika Eksta (photos at the top floor), Warren Niesłuchowski and Simon Leung (archival exhibition, video), Pauline Curnier Jardin (installation, video), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).


The Rainis and Aspazija House
(Baznīcas street 30, Rīga)

Several works were on show at the museum: Ingrīda Pičukāne (drawings inside, mural on the building facade); Felicita Pauļuka (pastel paintings inside the courtyard hall), Dagna Jakubowska and Joanna Gawrońska-Kula (objects on the second floor of the exhibition), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).

The two-story building has a small terrace from which Ingrīda Pičukāne’s mural could be seen. The courtyard building featured pastel paintings by Felicita Pauļuka.


The Andrejs Upīts Memorial Museum
(Brīvības street 38-4, 3rd floor, Rīga)

Three works were on show at the museum: Ieva Epnere (installation), Gülsün Karamustafa (video work), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).


The Romans Suta and Aleksandra Beļcova Museum (Elizabetes street 57a, ap. 26 (entry through the yard, Rīga, 5th floor)

Three works were on show at the museum: Eva Koťátková (an art object and a long poem in English), Anda Lāce (video and installation), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).


The Krišjānis Barons Museum
(Krišjāņa Barona street 3–5, 4th floor, Rīga)

Works by three artists were on show at the museum: Gözde İlkin (embroidery); Anna Salmane (art object); Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).


Neiburgs Hotel
(Jauniela 25/27, Room 207, 2nd floor, Rīga)

Two works were on show at the hotel: Mia Raadik (installation), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings).


The Eduards Smiļģis Theatre Museum
(E. Smiļģa street 37, Rīga)

Five works were on show at the museum: Anna Salmane (video on the second floor), Flo Kasearu and Elīna Vītola (installation in the courtyard and the fountain), Oskar Dawicki (art object on the second floor), Jenna Sutela (two videos on the top floor), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).

The installation in the courtyard could only be viewed from a distance.


The Ojārs Vācietis Museum
(Ojāra Vācieša street 19, Rīga)

Four works were on show at the museum: Giorgi Gago Gagoshidze (video), Kaspars Groševs and Inese Groševa (art objects), Oreet Ashery (video), Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).


The Jānis Akuraters Museum
(Ojāra Vācieša street 6a, Rīga)

Three works were on show at the museum: Ieva Kraule-Kūna (graphics and objects on the 2nd floor premises; stairs lead to the second floor); Johanna Hedva (English-language video without subtitles; large-scale essay prints in Latvian and English; Latvian-language quotes on windows); Dineo Seshee Bopape (drawings on show throughout the exhibition premises).
