Hajek a Porcal

Art and Communication Project

Hajek a Porcal is a collaborative project in which we use Geocaching for the presentation and distribution of contemporary art. Geocaching is a global activity where people hide a cache (treasure) somewhere in the world and then publish its GPS coordinates online for other people to hunt and find it.

We offer geocaching community new form of treasure - artworks of contemporary artists and we use the geocaching system for communication, presentation and distribution of art. Thanks to the working profound geocaching system the works spread among the people. We want to create communication platform between two social communities, artist and geocachers.

This project is running from 2009 and we use different strategies how to present artworks to the geocaching community. We create new caches, which work as small galleries for exhibion, or we use existing caches as a distribution channel. Some of the works we placed on USB flash drives and they carried own Travel Bug with unique code, which can be tracked as it changes its location. The result you can see on Google map as a line going through different places.

For SURVIVAL KIT 2 we decided to present five videos from Czech and Slovak artists stored at USB flash drives. These are: Tereza Sochorova + Filip Cenek, Jan Sramek, Jan Pfeiffer, Veronika Vlkova + Magdalena Bazantova and Viera Cakanyova. All of the USBs have their own TravelBug with unique code. This means that the drives can be tracked as they travel through the network. Because of the financial problems we will not to come to Riga personally, but we will send the art by geocaching network. This means we will hide the art in the Czech Republic, and the mission of the items will be to get to Riga until Survival Kit 2010 begins. This way Czech Republic - Riga will be tracked on internet (google map), so we can see which works managed to reach Riga, the way they moved and how many people carried them.

This process is a new experiment within the network, so it is possible that the artworks will get to SURVIVAL KIT in time, or they can disappear during the way. Our aim is to offer artists new audience from different social groups in different countries.
