What have you learnt from the changes in recent years in Latvia and the world?
Since beginning adult life, questions about what I am and what place I wish/ am able to take in this world are globally and personally real for everyone/ for me — am I a creative professional or an independent artist, or a maker of beautiful glass, or a payer of bills, or a small businesswoman, or a good mother, or what. And how to combine all of this!? Throwing all of my life’s roles into a pot, a fermentation process has developed, which in recent years has turned around, thanks to the crisis. Just recently it’s starting to stratify, maybe its fermented. Let’s see what’s been created — wine, syrup or vinegar. The lesson — don’t lose belief in your dream.
How does your project in SURVIVAL KIT 2 fit in with the festival theme?
A person really is just a child. Enjoying all sorts of marvels and pleasant surprises — sweets and windmills, carousels, sunset, soap bubbles and similar trifles. Trifling with these simply grasped things, shiny reflecting jewels have been created, with simple irony about diamonds and other worldly treasures and valuables, our attitude to the real and fake, the necessary and the superfluous. The reflecting jewels are as shiny as stars, light as pop culture, they spin with the slightest breeze and turn, creating a discothèque effect. Light entertainment, a simple life. An intentional self-abandonment or a yearned for utopia?
Why haven’t you left yet?
It’s naïve to think that somewhere there someone wants/ is waiting for you for anything longer than just a visit. Do you want to start a new life? Put things in order around you, maybe you won’t want to leave.
