Dreams Behind the Line
Photography and drawings
What have you learnt from the changes in Latvia and globally in the last few years?
In the last two years my perception of life has completely changed; I have understood that everyone lives in a world they create themselves. If you think that everyone around you is dishonourable and bad, then so they shall be. If you choose to be grateful for life, then everything around you will change for the better. Everything around us is our own mirror, only you have to be able to see the similarities. In Latvia, people lack faith and conviction about individual values.
How does your project for SURVIVAL KIT 2 relate to the festival theme?
My project, which has originated with the help of Kirils Himičevs is about the “people factor”. We are all part of something greater, and the thoughts of each person affect each other, just like the cells of a large organism. Quite often, when thinking badly of a person, we forget that this comes back upon ourselves. If we cannot help someone materially, then good thoughts will not do any harm. And if, after visiting the exhibition, even just a few of us consider what we think or say, thereby subconsciously strengthening a joint positive spirit, then our project aim will have been achieved.
Why haven’t you left Latvia?
I like it here. Many of my friends are still here. I see opportunities in the crisis.
