Creative Dreams Factory

Exhibition, Talks, Workshops, Performances

Each of us has some unrealized dream or wish – it’s never too late to realize it. In homage to the Factory in New York founded in the 1960’s by Andy Warhol, the newly founded Mākslas telpa biedrība at the LU’s Nabaklab Club, will bring together creative personalities in an attractive, theatrical form – creators, with the consumers of the fruits of their labour i.e. spectators, listeners, readers, bringing up the question why people still continue to engage in art in the XXI century and why anyone needs it. Each day one or more specific thematic sessions will take place (music, visual art, modern dance, literature etc.), and anyone, both professionals and whoever is interested, can register.

Well known artists together with others who are interested will try out their skills in a different creative area. For example painter Kristiāns Brekte will try to learn to dance, sculptor Aigars Bikše will make up poetry.

In the evening a discussion is proposed about what is offered to the public in the area of culture in Latvia today and whether that is what the consumer actually wants.

Cooperation partners: Contemporary Art Centre, The New Theatre Institute of Latvia, Contemporary Dance Choreographers Association, Forest of Sound Society, Art Academy of Latvia, Latvian Academy of Culture, Radio NABA.

Discussion Is it easy to be an artist?

A discussion is proposed about what is offered to the public in the area of culture in Latvia today and whether that is what the consumer actually wants. Whether artists exist in their own separate world and even know about their viewers. What do artists want and what do the viewers of art want?

Why is it that people instead of making money are still creating art, without giving much thought to making money? Discussion will be led by Ilmārs Šlāpins, Rīgas Laiks.
