Ivars Drulle

Aļo/Hello

Installation, 2011

Europe is growing old. So is Latvia. We are going to grow old and there will be many of us. What will it be like? Long ago I started listening ‘The Free microphone’ broadcast by Latvian Radio. I have been periodically recording the program during the last five years. Half an hour twice each week is devoted to anything that bothers the listener. Judging by their voices, the callers are mostly elderly people, so the program gives us a chance to hear and realize what old people are thinking about and what they find important enough for the whole nation to know.

This is what we are going to be like. This is the future. (I.D.)
