Aural Contract: Latvia’s Systems Of Simultaneous Translation
Performance, 2011
Abu Hamdan presented an audio essay and collective listening performance event. The event combined Abu Hamdan’s current research into the politics of listening and the role of the voice in law with an exploration of the political performance of language, translation and the role of the courtroom interpreter in Latvia. Producing a new work that uses a self designed system of simultaneous translation to sonically inhabit the audio infrastructure at the core of its investigation.
Abu Hamdan was brought to SURVIVAL KIT by THE SHOWROOM, a contemporary art space in London that is focused on a collaborative and process-driven approach to production, be that artwork, exhibitions, discussions, publications, knowledge and relationships.
