At ‘White Night’, as part of the Contemporary Art Festival Survival Kit 5, there was a range of different activities in which artists and musicians presented their work created focusing on artistic and exploration of this year’s ‘White Night’ theme ‘Open the door’.
With the aid of artworks, the door to the unknown, the metaphysical world of art was opened and the things experienced there expanded the collective consciousness of the audience beyond the hitherto disclosed horizons of creativity. The ‘White Night’ programme began with the USA based activists, "The Yes Men", who demonstrated that immediate and provocative behaviour leads to positive changes in society. This was followed by an attractive short film programme compiled by 2ANNAS, that offered a view of themes such as the slow revolution, marginality and the current socio-political movements.
The lecture by artist Ingrīda Pičukāne focused on studying the situation and offering a possibility of revolution, directed towards the weakening of patriarchy. The participants of the Canadian artist collective FASTWURMS introduced the viewers to their activities that merged together the aesthetics of elitist and of popular culture thus transforming reality into a magical journey with unexpected stops. At the show and performance ‘Absurd Episode from Reevolution’, every visitor of the festival had the opportunity to experience the exotic flavour of revolution on one’s own skin.
Survival Kit 5 visitors experienced travel through time and space in psychedelic ambiance while "The Smoking Caterpillars" painted the world with harmonious, uninterrupted and fluid musical drawings. The audience, accompanied by music, was invited to a voyage into the depths of art and consciousness. After the performance, the evening was brought to an end by the depressive avant-garde synthpop super-collaboration ‘Dr. Klisicka Laboratorija’ that provided an insight into their research of human existence, life and death.
