BOUTIQUE FASHION RECYCLED or HOLD ON TO RAINIS!

(Ināra Gauja, Ingrīda Zābere)

Apparel collection, fashion show 2009

It is clear that we have reached the critical moment when things cannot continue the same as before. Bankruptcies, insolvencies, environment degradation, non-renewable resource depletion, decline of purchasing capacity. The situation indicates that the world order should be changed, and immediately.

Rainis has warned us before: WHAT WILL CHANGE, WILL LAST!

So we offer to recycle the premises of bankrupt fashion stores and the neverending stocks of boring fashion to break the deep-rooted idea of fashion and create a new lifestyle standard based on extending the life of things in a new recycled shape. In our time when everyone is so focused on and governmental and non-governmental economy of all kinds of resources, we save the world of fashion from degrading excessiveness.

Mass fashion industry manufactures non-stop and pollutes the environment, and the production is nothing more than heaps of inspiring rags for short-time wear and to be boringly thrown out.

We urge to fight that by finding inspiration in the creative process of recycling old rags (pearls), extending the wearing time of clothes that have become boring, turning it into new fashion.

Recycling possibilities of fashion are virtually inexhaustible, as long as the fabric of the clothes holds together. If you have no bread, you can just as well eat cake – (like in Paris around the time of the revolution...). And remember Rainis: CHANGE YOURSELF AND THE REST, CHANGE FOR THE BEST! Why should you spend money on a new lovely jacket if you can make one out of an unwanted pair of trousers stowed away in the corner of your closet – a few deft hand movements and you’re done! Or turn a shirt into trousers. Or a skirt into a blouse. Anything is possible.
