Latvians have a saying – “If boys are born more often than girls, there’s going to be a war.”
It’s clear that people themselves are the reason for any crisis, fight, misfortune or trouble and it’s also possible that men bear a slightly greater responsibility in this regard. How can all these disasters of “a man’s world” be dealt with if we ourselves no longer have the strength to fight them? This is probably a case where we should take advantage of Latvian knowledge about amulets, symbols of strength and magical protections.
