Do It Yourself!

Exhibition, workshops, lectures, discussions, parties, joy of living

The project Do It Yourself borrows its name from DIY culture and offers a chance to participate in the various activities of a group of friends or relatives. Those people usually do not have an art education. Their creative thinking and willingness to search for unusual solutions play an important role in their everyday lives, however. They are not afraid to dream; they enjoy turning extraordinary ideas into reality.

They reject the principles of passive consumption and instead strive to enliven the concept of amateur creativity; they use their time to carry out their artistic ideas instead of earning money. In some cases, the project is unsuccessful and the result is not quite as expected. In other cases, the desirable result is attained; the object is created using extraordinary materials and methods and is more interesting than the standard, identical models available in shops.

At any rate, the artist acquires new skills and knowledge during the production process and is having a good time. It does not matter what kind of ideas each participant of the project has to offer; the main point of these creative activities has always been having fun and enjoying oneself.

There will be many self-made, functional objects at the exhibition; the artists will offer advice about carrying out the projects in the workshops; there will be interesting lectures as well as opening and closing parties to celebrate the joy of living.

The result of the DIY project is not predictable because the final idea and its accomplishment depends on every single one of the participants. Don’t be afraid to fulfil your dreams!
