European Union National Institute for Culture (EUNIC) is a partnership of national institutions for culture, engaged beyond their national EUNIC has in the last year been working a lot with societal integration and cultural diversity. Often such integration is handled by experts, but this time it is happening with artists as the participants and idea creators. Latvia is a partner to the UNESCO convention on Cultural Diversity. And Latvia is – as so many other countries in Europe –facing significant challenges within the field of social integration. It is therefore apparent that new ways are needed to meet that challenge. It is interesting for EUNIC members to develop cooperation with relevant authorities and NGOs about that problem. From each EUNIC Member is chosen a poet/writer who has another ethnic background than the majority population. Based on short readings the writers will discuss their experience with intercultural dialogue in their country. How is it to have a split national or ethnic identity or perhaps not having it all and being fed up with this classification? Hopefully the discussion will also come out with suggestions to how such dialogue could be improved in the future.
