Project "Escape Vehicle"

Project: Von Stürmen und Drängern

An escape vehicle serves the sole purpose of a fast getaway on wheels. The “Escape Vehicle” is like a scenography or a film episode with no actors. Just like a movie on the breakdown lane. Endless streets to nowhere wind away through the vehicle that looks as if taken from some American road movie.

An escape-like leap into the unknown and the question of a direction fall into one. The project tells of the homelessness characteristic of today’s nomad lifestyle. Survival as a constant act of fleeing. The starting point of the project are stories of escape found in both Friedrich Schiller’s (1782) and his first Latvian translator’s Janis Peitāns’ (1822) biography, connected through the drama “The Robbers”.

A project by Ieva Kauliņa, Olaf Helbing, Janek Muller and Schiller 05 e.V.
