Ansis Epners

Ansis Epners (1937–2003, Riga) was a Latvian film director and writer, as well as a lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Culture. He mainly directed documentaries. His best-known films are Four Looking for a Million (1979), I am Latvian (1990) and Cage (1993), which won the Lielais Kristaps Award. His athlete-focused documentaries Irbe: Man and a Mask (1996, about Latvian hockey player Artūrs Irbe) and Mihails Tāls: After Twenty Years (1980, about world chess champion Mihails Tāls) were also highly acclaimed.
