ON THE EDGE: Life on the Border

An informal meeting with tea, snacks, and a discussion about the project ON THE EDGE - very close to something

The event was a reflection on the expedition that took place that summer to the Latvian border in Indra, Krāslava district, where the only Happiness Museum in Latvia is located, to get to know the seniors living on the border and their sources of happiness.

In this expedition, the main task in conversations, collaborative work, and tea-drinking was to find out how people felt in their daily lives, being close to different borders - both literal and figurative. The age boundary marked by retirement and aging, the language boundary - a large part of the conversation was about participants having difficulty speaking Latvian - and the state border, which was particularly noticed during our expedition days due to the emergency situation introduced in August of that year on the Belarusian border in connection with the refugee crisis. These borders offered both restrictions and opportunities, being surprisingly sharp and relative at the same time, seen through the prism of personal life stories and experiences.

We invited everyone to come together in a cozy atmosphere, drink tea with the expedition participants, discuss what aging means and how it is influenced by the place you live in, watch a report about the observed places on border situations, attitudes, migration, and things that don't change.
