Adéla Součková

"One for Birth, two for a Place, three for Struggle, four for Shape, five for Leisure, six for Pleasure, seven for Death" (2017–2023)

Installation: charcoal, chalk pastels and natural dye on textile, indigo dye on textile

Součková explores animist and prehistoric modes of existence to convey the emotional and spiritual bond between landscape and humans across myths and archetypes, feminism and ecology. In this installation, Součková combines drawing on naturally dyed textiles with the game of hopscotch, progressing from the initial square “Earth” to the final square symbolizing the “Sky”. This game presents a ritualistic gesture that transcends ideologies, facilitating a reconnection with a pre-dualistic state of existence. Through these mediums, the artist seeks to establish symbolic and performative connections to nature, reclaiming hidden forms of indigeneity and woman empowerment.

Adéla Součková's work can also be seen in the sister-exhibition Long-distance Friendships at the 14th Kaunas Biennial.
